Unique pieces, printed like old times: this is Quaderni di Carattere. Founded by Davide and Silvia, two young graphic designer from Saronno (IT) with the intent to keep alive and spread the typography of the past, dealing with movable type printing. They love mixing analog and digital, designing graphic projects by computer then transformed in print matrices to be used in analog mode. They realize their typographical projects in limited series but also commissioned projects. Different and unique prints, each one with their own character pressure sign, keep a strong link with the past.

Print About Me

Print About Me is a collective born in Turin in September 2011. It comes from the encounter between minds and professionalisms of Paolo Berra, Mattia Macchieraldo and Beatrice Zanelli (Arteco). A graphic designer, a visual artist and an art historian held together by their common interest for the printed art or the art of printing.

Print About Me is also an editorial project, it realizes books, prints and products in limited edition. It collaborates with artists and designers, favoring traditional printing techniques and the “maker” approach. Since 2014 Print About Me teaches “Traditional printing techniques” in the Graphic Design degree course at IED (European Institute of Design) of Turin.

Stamperia Busato

Founded in 1946, Stamperia Busato is based in the historic center of Vicenza. Giancarlo keeps working on printing activities of his grandfather.
During the ’60s his father’s works opened a flourishing season, which had as its main interlocutors Neri Pozza e Tono Zancanaro.
From then their printshop focused on the agreement between printer and artist, making it as its unique character.
He spends his days among presses, dies, inks and paper, keeping to use craft printing systems which never changed over time.

Typo Workshop is a crafty lab that wants to preserve and enhance the printing press with hand presses and movable type: ancient machines for a modern design. We chose to dedicate ourselves to the slow press, to the beauty of “making handcrafted” where the mind and hands work together. We came back to dirty hands, smell of ink, paper to be cut and bend by hand. We like the artistic press and experimentation, artistic books and small limited edition, graphic design, xilography and chalcography.

The Museo della Carta di Mele was born in 1997 to witness the ancient knowledge of the art paper. It was much important for the economic and cultural development of Miele territory. From 2014, Museo della Carta di Mele also becomes a productive center and store of artifacts. These are made in high-quality paper with ancient techniques, now reproduced by just five craftsmen in Italy. It offers guided tours, art workshops for adults, schools and families. The collection collects the latest multimedia techniques that will lead the visitor into a real sensory journey into the world of paper.

Massimo Polello lives and works in Torino in his studio ABC atelier. Has dealt with calligraphy and lettering design for over 15 years. As a graphic art-designer, designs calligraphic logos, numerous interior design commissions for calligraphic works, art exhibitions and fairs, shops, hotels and private homes. As an artist, he does regular workshops and exhibitions all over the world. He has held seminars at major institutions such as the School of Visual Arts in New York, Concordia University and UQUAM in Montreal and Adobe in San Francisco. Furthermore, Massimo has been invited to the International Conference of Font Designer in Moscow, Istanbul and São Paulo.

Libri Finti Clandestini

Libri Finti Clandestini is an experiment in the field of recycling, publishing and design. Its purpose is to make real books (sketchbooks, notebooks, travel diaries, carnet de voyage…) using only materials found, paper people consider waste: waste of printing, proofing paper, grocery bags, posters, bags, bread bags and wallpaper.

They may be small pop up editions (50, 100 numbers) or books ready to be written on, drawn or to be used any other way the owner wants to.

Lahar magazine

Lahar Magazine is an open magazine with a posterzine format. Open magazine because it is an open editor magazine. Each number depends on the content submitted by the readers.

Posterzine because Lahar is to be read, opened and hung, becoming a real poster. Every two months it does a thematic editorial call to inspire written and visual production to all who wish to get involved.

The magazine is free and lives by collecting funds during festivals in which it takes part, as well as in the events dedicated to the new numbers that come out.

Illustratore Italiano is the first national magazine dedicated to the design and Italian designers. The spontaneous project started in 2014 with a Facebook page created by the illustrator Maria La Duke. The goal was to gather news and updates of the illustration world. The digital space, in a few months, engaged hundreds of users in a real community. With her brother Filippo, she came up with idea of giving life to a magazine. Illustratore Italiano gets inspiration from the great illustration periodicals of the past – from “L’Illustrazione Italiana” to “La Domenica del Corriere”, from “Corto Maltese” to “Linus” – but with a contemporary key.

La Bottega is a lab of crafty bookbinding, paper converting and library archive restoring born in 1955, in Turin. Through traditional bookbinding, thanks to the skills and insights of Luciano Fagnola, Master Bookbinder and restorer of international renown, it has expanded the production to paper industry, artistic bookbinding, restoration of old books and prints and conservation of modern materials. The lab is able to carry out work commissioned by clients with different needs. Singular costumers as well as professionals (lawyers and notaries, photographers, graphic and communication agencies), bibliophiles collectors as well as Libraries, Museums and Archives are some of its clients.
