In a world dominated with frenzy, Fabrica workshops want to rescale the value of results to give importance to their creative path. The discipline of design highlights the importance of the process. In the same way, in manual printing each small step deserves importance and respect. Workshop participants will be taken on a reflection trip on the importance of the process. Everyone can choose a theme and then print their way through.

Printing techniques:
Screen printing. But we won’t discard other techniques in order to push beyond the limits of the printing process.

It’s time to think positive again: Italy is beautiful, just look at all the history here, look at the nature around you, have some pasta, drink this wine! So many people now think that everything turns bad… And the Italian graphic designers that we talk to seem to think that, too!

So let’s do something against it: we are designing protest boards with the beautiful things of Italy: La Mamma! Ravioli! La Juve! And all the things that you love about this fantastic country.

Re-wine

Re-wine is about going back to artisan processes and to Re-cycle materials for wine label design. Participants will elaborate a trilogy of labels, structured in three related elements (ex. 123, RGB, Morning/Afternoon/Night…) .

The works must be done using only existing materials (paint colurs, spray can colours, colour markers, stamps, washi & cello tapes, newspaper scratches, wrapping paper…), without computers or printing machines.

We will take pictures of the final designs, to record the process.

Contaminating and discovering intersections between disciplines are the basis of Fablabs’ culture.

Collaborating with Print Club Torino, Fablab Torino will present one of the first experimentations between making and typing, finding out where they meet to create a new form of expression. Through the screen and the basic knowledge of electronics we will achieve an interactive visual project. We’ll use conductive inks and small electronic components to “increase” the common graphic language and give life to the printed trace.

We are bombarded with design everyday and anyone with a computer, tablet or smartphone can make a design. The strength of an original idea is more necessary than ever. To set yourself apart you need to be able to tell stories, share ideas and experiences that connect with people. In this pressure cooker workshop we’ll teach you how to create an experience out of any ordinary design. In 6 hours of playful but intense brainstorming we’ll take you through the basics of Experience Design as we developed in our book “This is Experience Design”.

Playing under stress is one of the many enemies contextual being, however, the solutions that it unlocks are countless in value and potential. The Design space is not limited by pixels. Data and expression are not opposites. Under attack. A supermarket spree and political campaigns are scattered in the same visual principles: Bold, bad and persuasive.

Hacking Types

The purpose of this workshop is to raise awareness of the use (and abuse) of typography and typographic sabotage. We will go deep into tipometric issues related to typeface design. Synergy and contamination between makers and typography world will also be a subject.
The output of the workshop will be a typeface. Participants will work on sabotaging a typeface. They will analyze the design through its reliefs and then redraw some glyphs.

Print is an expressive activity.
Choosing a support, an ink, a printing technique rather than another brings with it a share of poetry and meaning. Printing the same subject with screen printing or with an old copier or via letterpress printing doesn’t lead to the same result. “Grain”, small signs printed on the card, change the relationship between form and meaning. Keeping control of the entire production process of an elaborate graphic means designing in all its phases.

The words are usually arranged and sorted along a single line and direction. In this workshop, letters will be stamped and merged following the shapes of the type.We’ll get compositions to hang, made of words with different directions and trends.
