What does it mean to bring the creative process back to its most practical form, reinterpreting a craft technique through contemporary and modern automation? The Dutch duo Studio GdB knows this well, as over the years they have transformed and renewed their creative work, specializing in the production of customized glazed ceramics. With a background in visual design, Studio GdB’s work expertly combines aesthetic attention to graphic composition with a predisposition for experimenting with languages. This was made possible through the development, design, and programming of a CNC (computer numerical control) printer capable of printing glazes on tiles. The result is a production of ceramics with bright colors and a fascinating aesthetic that blends the unique and artisanal character of “handmade” with the mechanical precision of industrial production.
