The Wonder from the Past exhibition highlights the work of Cierne Diery, an activism project that has been working since 2014 to give new value to Slovakia’s historic buildings, from old factories to ruined spas and modernist architectural icons. These places have been represented in books and graphic prints, acquired by the Slovak National Gallery and have become a true case of collecting. More than 90 authors from the world of visual arts, illustration, and graphic design from Slovakia participated in the series produced by Cierne Diery’s risograph printers. Behind the fascinating graphics and vibrant colors, however, lies a project of great cultural and social interest, which testifies to the beauty and architectural heritage of Slovakia and which has allowed the association to engage in the restoration of some of these monuments, elevating their representation to contemporary art language with a social subtext as well. The project has received several awards in the field of Slovak design and architecture.
