Appelle moi Papa is a graphic design studio created in 2010 in Nantes, France. Lucie, Tom and Jonathan create visual identities and campaigns, lay out books and magazines, design objects and spaces, taking care to find contemporary, functional and impactful graphic solutions. They work for cultural institutions and private sector striving to create projects in which images, colors and typography interact in an attractive and accessible way.
Design Practice
As a graphic design studio, we consider our practice as being at the intersection of design and art. We respond to requests that relate to communication but we try to propose a more sensitive way than a traditional advertising agency. Our graphic desires are always juxtaposed with the concrete brief proposed by the client. In this sense we experiment, we search, until we find the concept that will satisfy us graphically while responding to the demand. We always formulate custom designed responses. Ultimately, it’s this particular vision about an image or space that clients come to seek out when they call on us. The work of a graphic designer, as we do it, forces us to explore unknown territories. Generally speaking, we regularly leave our computers to return to manual work (screenprinting, painting, modeling, glass blowing) in order to enrich our projects or produce exhibitions. Aesthetically we are looking for the obvious, an idea of harmony and impactful simplicity.
