Gianluca Manzini is a visual artist who carries out his research in Milan. His interest is mainly directed towards advertising communication and the relationship it weaves with the metropolis, its architecture, letters, materials, the media that enable their dissemination and the relationship they create with consumers. The subject of the artist’s research for the exhibition SIGNATURE is the sign, which through interventions of abstraction, distortion and decontextualisation creates a short-circuit in the gaze; in particular, the artist’s interest focuses on inserting luminous signs in private rather than public places, contaminating ‘new’ spaces with respect to the original purpose of the sign, creating environments that trace a new line of reading, questioning the spectator as to what the limit of communication may be. This limit in the artist’s research is also pushed in a new project that gives its name to the exhibition, in which the dynamics of mass communication take on the tendency of the younger generations to turn their interest to nature, in which the alienation of the metropolis is absent; an intervention that could also be contemplated by large companies as an advertising campaign, a sign in the midst of unspoilt nature, without a physical place linked to consumption to act as its standard-bearer.
