Wandering Cities showcases imaginaries of urban spaces in motion, where material objects move yielding to processes of urban and environmental transformation, within a landscape of new scenario-making AI tools and mixed-media sculptures of long-legged archetypal houses.
We take our cue from the case of Kiruna, Sweden, a city that was constructed onto an iron ore and is now being partially moved because of the subsidence of the ground. Fabio Guida’s sculptures experiment between the heavy materiality of cement and the perceived movement offered by long stilts, taking us to faraway lands of dream-like possibilities. Contextually, a new Artificial Intelligence tool developed by the group BUB (Berkay Özgen, Uğur Yıldırım Şimşek, Busra Kus) will envision a series of alternative possibilities for the new city of Kiruna, developed in real-time. Drawing inspiration from nature’s evolutionary principles, the exhibition showcases how evolutionary algorithms offer a transformative approach to urban challenges. Through immersive experiences and captivating visuals, the exhibition invites visitors to contemplate the intersection of innovation, sustainability, and human adaptation in shaping the cities of tomorrow.
