“To truly love we must learn to mix various ingredients – care, affection, recognition, respect, commitment, and trust, as well as honest and open communication.”
–Bell Hooks, All About Love, 2001
This workshop celebrates the art of the love letter, alongside ideas from the intersectional feminist Bell Hooks. In her book All About Love, she advocates for an insightful and loving coexistence.
The Dear Love… workshop aims to explore approaches and possibilities for expressing affection and appreciation through design. It raises the question: What would happen if we placed love and care at the very center of design methods? And if we were crafting a love letter, how could we share its enchanting message with the world?
As a mediator of emotions and feelings, graphic design has the potential to become a caring practice that spreads love as its fundamental purpose—connecting us not only with one another but also with other species and even non-living matter. Participants in this workshop will discuss these propositions and express themselves through painting on posters, which will be exhibited to the public.
Critical, involved, and loving—that’s what defines the ideas behind the Dear Love… design workshop, which extends into an exhibition.
