LAZY TYPES

This expression was coined several years ago (sometime between 2002 and 2016) by Maria Rosaria Digregorio, a friend, fellow designer, and lecturer.

LAZY TYPES (TIPI PIGRI) refer to a specific category of projects related to the world of typography. These projects are often composed of modular parts or designed within a grid—which may or may not be orthogonal. Their appearance is marked by a certain rawness—yet not without elegance.

This workshop delves into the design of “discrete” typefaces—constructed within a grid using a modular system—and explores the expressive possibilities of their parametric manipulations.

Participants will design modular and flexible typefaces, built on a grid with modules, “discrete” in a mathematical sense, created using self-made and open-source tools. The approach is intentionally “experimental,” aiming to simplify the workflow and enhance the quality of work for those who use them.
