BOLO Paper is an independent publishing house based in Milan, Italy. They frequently collaborate with designers and artists to produce high-quality objects, artist books, magazines, fanzines, and limited-edition prints—without conforming to market logic or common sense. Founded in 2011 by Milanese graphic designer Marco Nicotra, BOLO Paper explores the vast world of imagery and visual culture, often with a vintage, trashy, sarcastic, and highly iconic touch. A key visual trick they employ is the contemporary reinterpretation of images deeply rooted in our collective visual background—often drawn from the aesthetics of the ’80s and ’90s. These images are recontextualized in unexpected ways, creating a subtle visual short-circuit for the viewer. Recurring themes in their work include randomness and mistakes, embraced not as creative limitations but as essential allies in producing compelling publications.
