Vincent De Boer: Making a Point With A Line

May 16- 26 2024

Exhibition

Vincent De Boer, whose background is rooted in calligraphy, continually challenges the limits of language. Fascinated by the world that unfolds in a single brushstroke, he explores the complexity of movement. His body of work reflects his profound understanding of material and technique, as well as the concentration required to master them. Building on this foundation, de Boer applies his distinctive style to a variety of media and expressive modalities, including paper, murals, and performances, showcasing his work both in the Netherlands and abroad.

During the ninth edition of Graphic Days®, Vincent De Boer was a guest in Turin with a solo exhibition and a performative activity. A selection of new calligraphic works on paper, notebooks, and an installation from his studio in Utrecht was displayed. During the first weekend of the festival, de Boer guided the audience through the discovery of his artistic ecosystem and the infinite possibilities hidden behind each stroke, creating some works live in the room dedicated to him.

As a painter and craftsman, Vincent De Boer seeks poetry and nuances in the calligraphic line.
He explores the limits of language by asking the question: is it possible to tell a story with a single letter? A universe that opens up in a single line?

While calligraphy is primarily known as a textual tool, Vincent is more interested in the mystical contradictions hidden within it, such as the depth of a flat surface, transcendent time, and elusive tactility.
