Home / Reciprocity

Two days of meetings to reflect on issues of Just Transition and bring to life a participatory work that brings the cities of Turin and Malaga into dialogue.

Reciprocity

Reciprocity was born from the desire to propose a shared reflection on the issues of Just Transition through a multidisciplinary and generative approach; it aims to be an inspiration for new models: as a key word to build another relationship between the living heritage of local communities for a collective and inclusive well-being.

The project explores issues considered particularly urgent for the living heritage of local communities, starting with the specific cases of Turin and Malaga: the care of public green, co-housing, the right to housing, community practices and urban policies for the management of natural resources.

The project will kick off in Turin on Sept. 20 and 21 with a series of talks, creative workshops and artistic interventions aimed at creating a collective work curated by artist Eva Frapiccini: an installation that will collect thoughts and requests for the future of co-housing with the natural environment, made on fabric and lending itself to traveling exhibitions.

The work will be exhibited at Toolbox Coworking at the end of the Turin stop and in Malaga in spring 2025 on the occasion of the initiative’s second event, which will be hosted by the cultural space La Casa Invisible.

The Turin-Malaga comparison

The reflection proposes a comparison between two urban contexts that are different but have many elements of contact: the experience of Turin, a city with an industrial past and an interesting natural heritage, where transition could mean a better use of its naturalistic components to counteract and mitigate the effects produced by climate change; the case of Malaga, where gentrification and tourism have advanced and consumed the city’s historic district, but where good practices such as those of the Casa Invisible cultural center are being carried out, where Art, Architecture, Sustainable Development, Civic Engagement and Law have become tools for an alternative future.

The participatory work

Reciprocity is not just a symposium, but also a screen printing workshop, a moment of open sharing in which a participatory work will be created that brings together tensions of the present and instances for the future, a work created by and between the cities of Turin and Malaga.
During the debate of the nine tables, the audience will be invited to transcribe the words that turned out to be most significant (or open questions) that can enrich the discussion and workshop activities of the afternoon.
The final outcome will be an itinerant fabric installation, created through the thoughts and instances arising from the discussion with the participants in Turin and Malaga. The work will be exhibited at Toolbox Coworking at the end of the Turin’s event, and at La Casa Invisible in Malaga in March 2025, during the second participatory workshop.
