The Graphic Days® festival is an event dedicated to Italian and international visual design which, since 2016, has involved artists, professionals and the most relevant studios on the international scene.
- The title of the fifth edition of Graphic Days®, which took place from 1st to 11th October 2020, is Transitions and proposes a reflection on the role of visual design in actively promoting the transition from a paradigm that focuses on the human being to one which instead has our planet as its focal point, contributing to the process of society assuming a sense of responsibility and risk.
We have, in fact, gained awareness that the impact of a consumer model based on human needs and on the achievement of immediate satisfaction is co-responsible, on a global level, for the processes that undermine the health of the planet. It therefore becomes urgent to promote methodologies, research, products and services oriented towards sustainable objectives and ambitions, also including the needs of the planet and interconnected social systems.

Singolare Plurale was the main exhibition, which we curated in collaboration with Mauro Bubbico. It presents the recovery of pre-existing historical iconographies through new linguistic and visual codes. To this we added: the photographic exhibitionAnother Story by Luca Capuano and Camilla Casadei Maldini, consisting of a series of works that reflect on the concept of “forgetfulness” and “repression”, referring specifically to the Italian colonial period in East Africa and the Mediterranean. The exhibition itineraries Posterheroes: Humans at Work curated by the PLUG association and Stay at Home, the ironic exhibition dedicated to the lockdown, by the illustrator Riccardo Guasco. We also hosted The Wall that Disappears, the participatory installation curated by the Goethe-Institut which aims to enhance the plurality of European thought, celebrating linguistic and cultural diversity.
During the talks we discussed Design of Ecosystems (with Professor Silvia Barbero and Nesta) Design Thinking and learning methodologies (with Nicolay Boyadjiev of the Strelka Institute and Ella Britton of the London College of Communication), tactical urbanism and territorial activism (with Jacek Wielebski of Traffic Design and the architecture and brand identity company ECÒL) and digital innovation and community building (with Safa Ghnaim of Tactical Tech and the two researchers Corrin Gisel & Nina Paim).
As tutor of the workshops, the illustrator Matteo Berton was at the head of an expedition to discover exotic atmospheres to portray, Andrea Serio, who, starting from the environment and its colors, led a creative design workshop and Fabian Herb of Dinamo and Michelangelo Nigra who taught the participants how to make a variable font.
